Serendipity Graphics

This banner was designed to be displayed in the mining camps in the Pilbara during NAIDOC week 2009.

The purpose was to encourage the mine workers to understand and respect the importance of land and culture to the traditional owners of the land that they are mining.

Surveys are conducted by the local aboriginal people who know the land well. They locate and record the sacred sites and artefacts. They are rated to see if they are of high cultural importance and need to be preserved, if mining can go ahead or if an alternative site should be found.
